After listing some non-mechanical ideas for quirky, unique characters I thought it might be fun to create a table that would let the dice decide just how messed up a PC could be. So here we go: a Random Flaw Generator for your new (or existing) character. With the exception of the in-game effects, this table could be used for a number of systems. I tried to give a very general flavor to the names, descriptions, etc. just for that reason. No matter how you incorporate it, it’s almost guaranteed to result in some interesting encounters.
Very cool, reminds me of the insanity tables in the Palladium system (which I loved – when we were bored my freinds and I would just take turns rolling on that thing to see what mental illness we got), except the added dimension of severity makes it much more useful in the game (gives better roleplaying cues than just ‘depressed’), and the mechanics make it much more playable (I really like the saving throw to represent the struggle with the malady).
It’s strange, I’m big into story driven character concepts but I also really like some random elements to character creation. They can push you creatively to come up with things you might never have thought of (my gaming group really enjoyed the random character creation of Gamma World, trying to make sense of the sometimes bizarre combinations).
