DISCLAIMER: I’m not an actor. I’ve never taken an acting class. Like any good geek, I was curious about the topic, read a book, and now like to pretend I’m an expert. Do not be fooled. You’ve been warned.
Intwischa has spoken often of characterful experiences in gaming. Inspired by a recent Lifehacker article to learn more about method acting, I read The Actor’s Art and Craft: William Esper teaches the Meisner Technique. Although the book is prone to painfully clichéd turns of phrases, it is a great read for those interested in learning more about acting.
And while roleplaying is not the same thing as acting, Esper’s book has a number of ideas that I will appropriate or readily misuse to explore deeper character building in roleplaying games.
